Don’t get caught out by the mechanic who will charge you the earth just to look at your car. 

Avoid them by making sure you know the parts of your car that need taking care of. 
The six main areas us ladies need to know the condition of to keep us running smoothly are:

1. Oil
2. Wipers
3. Lights
4. Battery
5. Engine
6. Tyres

Oil – Keep this topped up and your car will love you forever more!!  Without it your engine won’t make it round the corner, it will cut down on engine repairs, it also  keeps your engine cool.  Oil changes are usually done with regular services.

Wipers – (and washer fluid) your wipers are easy to change so make sure you check them regularly.  If the rubbers are coming out of the clip, or they are cracked or blunt these are all signs you need new ones!!  Also remember your car could be unroadworthy if you don’t have washer fluid.

Lights – If you find one of your lights is out you may need to change the bulb, if both are out it may be the fuse that needs changing.

Battery – A totally dead battery is easily replaced at home, make sure all the connections are good and that there’s no corrosion.

Engine – There isn’t a great deal we can do here apart from listen out for any disturbing noises and get them checked as soon as possible.

Tyres – The legal requirement for tread on your types is 1.6mm,  Always check tyres are inflated to correct pressure, make sure this is done when tyres are cold.  If your tyre needs replacing never buy part worn or second-hand tyres a brand new or retread is always the safest option.
